1st Annual Sihanoukville Rib Cook-off update

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

1st Annual Sihanoukville Rib Cook-off update

Post by LaudJohn »

1st Annual Sihanoukville Rib Cook-off update Saturday 18 October 2014

There will be up to 10 entries. So far we have seven entries, so there is an opening for 3 more. Two entrants want to enter 2 different entries, so if we do not get 10 individual entries then they can make up the numbers. Please contact Tony at Charlie Harpers to reserve one of the three remaining places.

This will be a people’s choice judging and there will be 20 places for judges/customers. Judging places can be reserved,(6 reserved so far) please contact Tony at Charlie Harpers. If you have not reserved, then it is a first come first served basis. Others are welcome to turn up and enjoy the atmosphere, Charlie Harpers usual menu will be available.

Entrants will need to provide 30 ribs as everyone will get a rib. Order of service will be determined by a draw of the cards – Ace is first 10 is last.

Entrants will be outside at their own tables whilst judging is going on, they will be located out of sight from the inside. A staff member will be there to take your drinks orders. We will have a couple of charcoal BBQ’s outside and you can heat up your ribs prior to serving.

As the previous entry is being served, you heat up/cook off your ribs, then you get to cut them up and put them on disposable plates for the staff to serve. I expect for the ribs to be served about 10 minutes apart.

All judges/customers will have a score sheet. We will be using a modified Kansas City BBQ Association judging guideline. The categories will be Appearance, Texture, Moistness and Taste. Judges will score from 2 to 9. Use whole numbers only. The judging sheets will be collected and the scores entered into a spread sheet. The categories will be weighted , Appearance 0.5 , Texture1.25, Moistness 1.0, Taste 2.25.

Entrants will eat for free. Judges/customers will pay $5. The entire entry fee will be donated to Charity. Beers will be $1 and 50 cents of every drink will be donated to Charity. There will also be some Raffles with prizes being meals at the Aqua Family Resort in their new restaurant. The prizes will be valid for 6 months and will be transferable. All Proceeds of the Raffles will be donated to Charity. The Charity we are supporting is the Goodwill School.

Aside from Ribs there will be BBQ beans(Provided by the Aqua Family Resort) and Coleslaw (Supplied by Charlie Harpers) available.

Start time is 12.30 with the first Ribs coming out at 1pm. A great time and some awesome ribs are expected!

I am gutted that I will not be in the Kingdom for this awesome event. I hope it will be an annual event

Those who have met me, in person, will have guessed, I have a great deal of 'End User' experience in this area.

I am guessing the bookies favourite has to be the 'Rusty Nail' but I feel this will be the time for the Mc Guinness offering to move the bar to a new level but I think a seemingly, unknown (non commercial), has the potential to take the honours.

M D from PP might steal the show.

All I am sure of is I am missing what has the makings of a mega event
