"Can it be done?"

Don't know, but few would want to and even fewer would be too proud to write about it.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

What inspired u to say 100 baht($3) a day? Have you been talking to old hippies who travelled like 30 years ago, when Thailand costed far less than it does today?

You could just survive on the below possibilities but it would be a misery and doesn't factor in other scenarias like getting sick needing medical help,etc. Thailand is cheap but no longer the bargain that once was. OK here are the cheapest miserable scenarips;

Well yes u can, but due to inflation only if you either couch surf or find some place you can go camping for free. Eating 2 to 3 street meals and drinking cheap water.

More possible (typically) is $10( 330 baht) per day; HOSTAL, STREET FOOD , STAYING IN ONE PLACE. (This could thought of as the new cheapie shoestring baseline!)

Example: Checking Pai in low season hostels cost from $2 to $3. Add 3 meals@ $1.5=$4.5; Add water@$0.5 ,total as Little as US $7(230 baht)per day ( no travels, no beer) prices rise in high season.

Apart from the fact that Pineapple makes 100K a month and shouldn't have to, the fact is you can.

Sleep under a bridge: free

Water: refill your bottle at the next bank or office building.

Sit outside a temple with a sign asking people to finance your round-the-world trip.

Sell post cards on KSR with a sign how you got robbed and had passport, ticket and money stolen.

Alternatively, you could fuck off for once and for all; going back to your construction gig in Oz.

From " Land of Smiles " thread Beer in The Morning wrote :

" Andy bro, I have been homeless in Thailand and hanging with street people for months on end, I know the damn price mate, I ain't no lonely planet photograhy tourist buddy " 35 baht for a meal was your answer so why bother asking when you already know the 100 baht a day lifestyle

You can always volunteer at hostels for free lodging and food I suppose. If u don't feel like doing that then try booking 1 month in a hostel or single room rental., and getting even better deals. Plus shop in markets eat bananas and supplement with protein as necessary( eggs fried rice with meat.etc)

Better still go home☺

No, not even back in '87, unless you're prepared to live like a monk

Live like a king()
{
hooker: 50B,
whisky: 50B,
big bag of buds: 50B
}

Live like a monk()
{
cheapest room in town: 40B,
2 cheap meals: 30B,
bus somewhere: 15B
}

Thailand is a place where spending money is required to enjoy it's basic pleasures. It boggles the mind that someone would choose to fly all the way there and put up with annoying visa scenarios just to choose to live a miserable just surviving only lifestyle. The cheapest backpacker probably spends $20 day but most spend like $ 40 to 55 a day.

Go figure.
