Whole Chicken (Khmer Chicken) in Phnom Penh
Aeon Mall have a sale which is $6.50 for a whole chicken. As tiny as they are, they are really healthy for eating.
I have it on good authority though, that if you wanted to buy a ready cooked whole chicken, you can buy it for $5 or 20,000 riel at psah muan ang (fried chicken market in Toul Kork), and psah toul tompong (russian market, situated on the corner of the pagoda and the market.)
If you're looking for meat, the best time to go is first thing in the morning (5am-6am), to any market. Psah Kandal, Psah Boeung Trabek, Psah Kapco, Psah Boeung Keng Kong. This is something you should already know though.

Curious, when I go to the markets to buy chicken, I usually end up paying around 20-22,000 for a kg of chicken (the Khmer chickens). Assuming you mean the same thing, but if you mean that you found a place that the whole chicken is 20,000 riel (because I usually pay 35,000 because the chicken itself is around 1.6.1.7 kg), then I'll head right over!
So, did you mean 20,000 per kilo?

Don't know about the weight of them. Dead animals give me the creeps.
BUT...for the chicken, including head...all of the chicken is $6.50 in Aeon Mall.
But, let me reiterate and add, Psah Muan Ang has good khmer cooked whole chicken for 20,000riel, the same with Psah De Hoi.

Bought grilled chicken legs over the road from Murray's when we first arrived, the staff came back to confirm we meant it. That should have been our first clue... the staff who bet we WOULDN'T eat it lost, but it was a close call.
Bodge: This ain't Kansas, and the neighbours ate Toto!

This thread reminds me of an old joke.
What's the difference between erotic and kinky?
Erotic is using a feather, kinky is using the whole fucking chicken!

Murray is an expat that runs an apartment block in 197 behind the Khmer Russian hospital.VLayHo-ho-ho wrote:Who's Murray? And where is Murray's?
There's a fabulous restaurant on the corner across the road!

The Woman bought a whole chicken at Psar Kandal this morning - $4.50 for a 1.7kg bird. Makes a pretty good feed for 4 of us and enough for a good sandwich or two later on.
Good value.
