Maybe? I am not sure the office 365 key you offer is transferable. Usually Microsoft keys are connected to one or more e-mail accounts and if you don't have access to that account you can not use the key.

Back in the day I had a volume license key for xp and whatever system they had after that. Must have used that key to get around 500 free installations

The only Microsoft service I ever paid for and ever will pay for is Skype credit

I looked into it. You are the owner of the Family 365 license and the license is registered to your e-mail address. You can indeed share the license with 5 other people, supposedly your family members. But you can also withdraw those shared rights during the subscription period as 'head of the family'.
It's up to the potential buyer to decide if that's a good deal. It all comes down to trust I guess. But the license ends when you switch to new machine.
