Where are your priorities dude?

I went through that same exercise here in Siem Reap during the Covid era. After about 8 months of searching (hoping?) in vain, desperation drove me to splurge 100usd on a new Chinese acoustic guitar (Tayste is the brand). I reasoned that a 100usd acoustic guitar would be a better buy than a 100usd acoustic guitar with a pickup. The local shop threw in a plastic 'Yamaha' gig bag, a cheap strap, a plectrum and a spare 'e' and 'b' string as part of the deal. Two+ years later, I do not regret buying the guitar at all. The tone and volume are OK and the action is OK (although I would like it to be a bit lower above the 12 fret). What really amazed me is how this guitar withstands the climate in Siem Reap (wet season/dry season/heat/humidity/air-con room) - basically, a guitar's worst nightmare! (As luck would have it, about 6 months after purchasing the Chinese guitar I walk into Sakura and there was an old nylon string guitar that was just what I would have wanted. It had been really played in but wasn't trashed and even though it was missing a string, it just screamed 'buy me'. I didn't have the 45usd with me on that day. Agonized about whether I really wanted/needed 2 guitars while in Cambodia. Went back the next afternoon to buy it and it was gone.)

I was looking for something reasonable and cheap, just to stay in practice while in Cambodia (I have quality guitars back in my country). I still cringe owning up to musician buddies back home that I bought a 'Chinese' guitar, but hey, for the purpose I wanted it for, and the price, I have no complaints, and in fact, have been pleasantly surprised. I was also hoping to connect with someone just to have an informal jam once a week/fortnight, but, unfortunately that hasn't happened yet.

So to cut a long story short, a lot will depend on your expectations and your playing aspirations. I've seen lots and lots of secondhand acoustic guitars in PP and here in Siem Reap and with only one exception, they were all trashed to the point of only being useful as a decor items. I wish you good luck with your search and really hope you find what you are looking for. If not and you're losing patience, then I would advise giving some of those new 'no-name brand' Chinese guitars a test drive. You may be surprised.
