Re: Royal Enfield motorcycles now in Cambodia
I think you wouldn't want too much to go wrong with these given there's only one dealer in town. And they've only been here several months and will they last for the long term? Kawasaki and Ducati have closed shop since I've been here.
So you're taking a bit of a chance there compared to your Hondas, Suzukis and Yamahas. Then again, the problem with those dealers is that they pretty much don't have any big bikes ie 250cc and up. So then you're looking at the import shops or Harley, RE, KTM anyway.
Bajaj sell the 400cc Dominar which has good reports according to some local moto forums but you hardly see any on the road and you have the issue of getting parts and decent service not to mention poor resale price. I tracked down a local dealer here: https://www.facebook.com/CambodiaBajajMotorcycles and it looked like a neglected, small sideline in the shop against the tuk tuks for sale...the few bikes there squeezed tightly in a corner of the shop.
I've heard a few stories about Vespa owners too. Only one shop in town and apparently they hit you for expensive parts and service after purchase. If it's an unusual part it can take a long time to come. I've seen a lot of Vespas come on for sale on khmer24 and they don't hold their value well.

That's a pretty generous offer to make to seriously try before you buy.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 5:25 pm from FB

Not really, it's standard practice pretty much everywhere in the world. Bajaj let me test ride the Dominar.

Sorry, I meant that you could have it for the weekend... I presume other dealers wouldn't let you do that?Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 12:49 pm Not really, it's standard practice pretty much everywhere in the world. Bajaj let me test ride the Dominar.

Oops! My bad, I missed that. I don't think they mean the whole weekend, I'm assuming it got lost in translation and they meant over the weekend (as there's less traffic).

clutchcargo, I can see where your coming from, import is an expensive layout for the dealers, and the hope is they get the money back with the sale of the bike. I suppose we look at this more closely, such has the 50% hike or so on top of the bikes price in taxes, knowing it's more than likely regulated by the elite, but for the average Khmer and ourselves it's just normal daily price we have to pay if we wish to have such goods, but unlike the ones before us we wouldn't be making any monies back from our outlay. It could be argued so, that it is the same from the countries we come from ourselves.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 11:10 am I think you wouldn't want too much to go wrong with these given there's only one dealer in town. What of the types of motorcycles here in Cambodia and more so the service and maintenance of the particular machine and the dealership warranty, what is the actual extent of the warranty being offered, what also do you get has a service for the bike you have bought, and is there any costs involved too yourself, such has materials or labour chargers.
You had mentioned Ducati among other makes of motorcycle, I would think that there would be very few if any who could carry out the work on this type of complex machine, apart from its pose value, it's not really a bike of suitability nor of it's main ability for the country in several ways. Ducati back in my homeland was one of my favourite bikes, the maintenance of such and it's yearly service, that included dyno testing would cost me £800 plus parts.
This may have been more of an extreme choice of mine, being the mechanic I used also worked on the British Super Bike racing team, tuning and maintaining their race bikes, but when you have that type of motorcycle you look for who can do the work professionally, because if you was to use, let us say your Honda mechanic you would be throwing your money away.

Re: Royal Enfield motorcycles now in Cambodia
The new Meteor 350 has arrived in PP
A good addition to their existing line up I think and maybe a good compromise in PP for commuting and longer trips..
Fireball $4284
Stellar $4478
Supernova $4543

Re: Royal Enfield motorcycles now in Cambodia
^^
Yeah, on the surface these seem like a good deal @AndyKK however I would add that these are all 2018 models. I've been out to Motoland to have a look and test drive and the value is there however it seemed to me they've had trouble moving these. I think that might be because despite Mash being a French company..the basic mechanics ie engine/gearbox is from China based on an older Honda engine design albeit with upgraded EFI. Sort of what GPX (Thai company) is doing with China mechanicals.
That's not to say it's bad but I would say not contemporary and in the longer term resale value would be my concern. These Chinese models are being sold around the world under various brand names eg in Australia it's called Sol Victus https://www.solinvictus.com.au/products ... -scrambler
OTOH I think Royal Enfield has a better brand and reputation around the world and you're getting the latest design and up to date tech with 2 yr warranty. Still, having said that, I will have to go to the showroom and check it out in person. I just upgraded my scooter recently and I think that's still the most practical option in PP but I'm tempted to get something like this for a bit of fun on the side..famous last words haha
