What do explats dislike about Khmer culture?

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Sie haben recht - ich spreche kein Deutsch. Not in Germany or any other country.

OT. I have problems with the noise levels sometimes - it's difficult to explain to your neighbours that they are driving you mad with their dogs, kids, general screaming etc. Also I don't expect sympathy from khmer friends on this subject - they just don't get it.
Plenty other things but it's time to eat now :beer3:

Our neighbors at the back include two women who scream like fish sellers even in normal conversation to someone in the same space. I don't get how it goes from soft and melodic to window shattering in 2 seconds.

Can you give specific examples of this?

The parking space in front of our pteah lveang. Next door wants to park a moto and their laundry in front of theirs, but that's cool, we'll park the car across the barang's property. They try to slide the laundry into the westerner's parking space on the other side of them to leave their own frontage uncluttered, but he (the westerner) moves it back and parks his own car on the property line. It's a little harder to move the neighbor's car back into his property. Came home one day, he'd parked two vehicles diagonally across our frontage. I've checked with the landlord, it is very definitely allocated parking, and harsh words would be spoken if the westerners parked in the Khmer frontage.

Another good example is being an ATM - do I need to say more?
