UNTAC period photos 1992-93

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

I wasn’t comparing it to now but on films and docos I’ve seen from the 50s/60s with beautiful boulevards and perfect flowers etc.

Those videos are quite misleading, they do show beautiful newly developed areas but don't show the grimy villages that made up most of the city.

Progress ain’t always wot it’s cracked up to be.
However, I’m more interested in more detail about the period, rather than yet another debate going off on a tangent, however related.

Keep the pics coming, and add some detail if at all possible.

It's a pain uploading them, somehow I can only do one at a time. If there's some specific photo you want detail on just post it.

Actually, personally I’m more interested in others’ thoughts that may resurface when folk who were there at the time see something, a photo that jogs a memory.
I’m mid travels again, so I’m looking forward to catching up with installments.

UNTAC may have been done to death over the years, but these two may, or may not, have what you're looking for:

I had a regular motodop to take me to work and back home each day (c.2000). On the odd occasion that he was not available, I used an older motodop from down the road.
Picking me up in the evening meant he needed to collect me at 6:30PM. But he never showed up.
He told me the next day that his wife wouldn't let him out after dark as it was too dangerous.

If you go across to the other forum (TOF), from which I have been banned for life with no right of reply and with a total disregard for due process and natural justice (you only get 8 to 12 years for murder these days), for standing up to some of the slanderous bastards on that forum, you will see that I started a thread that became and remains the most read thread on that forum, and it was about UNTAC for the most part, but with a few digressions.

No point in starting all over again. I can't be bothered.

I thought it was pretty much impossible to get banned on TOF. That’s some feat!

Know that thread. Interesting read.
