"រក" means look for. "បាន" means have.

"រកបាន" means "look for - have," which means find or found. Found is the past tense of find. Same meaning, just different tense.

please, if you using បាន baan as a past tense particle you need to put it before the thing youre talking about,
if you are saying you found something you would say Baan Rok Hery (searched already) not Rok Baan
Khmer Grammar 101
Interesting, me and my wife have never heard of this before, is this formal grammar?
its written grammar, its not to do with formal/informal, its technical, its not often used in spoken form the same way Kompong and Nung are rarely spoken, its just Khmer Grammar 101

youve got the word Tov (to go), if you want/need to add a tense particle it simply goes like this...

ញុំនឹងទៅ - Khnom Nung Tov - I Will Go
ខ្ញុំកំពុងទៅ - Khnom Kompong Tov - I'm Going
ខ្ញុំបានទៅ - Khnom Ban Tov - I Went

without the tense particle you would just say Khnom Tov - I Go, which doesnt tell the listener a lot,
you will find people skip on putting the tense particle in some instances by using the word ហើយ - Hery/Hauy - 'Already', on the end, to signify that its an action that already happened
eg. Khnom Tov Hery - I Go Already, which is fine in Spoken form but when writing it is better to put Khnom Ban Tov Hery - I went already

or another example

តើអ្នកនិងធ្វើអ្វី - Ter Neak Nung Tver Ey? - What Will You Do?
តើអ្នកកំពុងធ្វើអ្វី - Ter Neak Kompong Tver Ey? - What are you doing?
តើអ្នកបានធ្វើអ្វី - Ter Neak Ban Tver Ey? - What did you do?

without the tense particle you would just say Neak Tver Ey? - What you do, which doesnt specify to the listener when are you asking i will do/did something

as i say, its not often used in spoken form, unless you want to be more specific, but i find it hard to believe your Wife has never heard this

i was mainly pointing out the bad Grammar from this comment by Explorer -
"រកបាន" means "look for - have," which means find or found. Found is the past tense of find. Same meaning, just different tense."

the past tense particle needs to be in front of the action, not after, when placed after a word you are signifying you are able to do it

That makes sense, I am familiar with the other grammar that you used for examples, but had never heard it used with បាន. To be precise she said she would be a bit confused if she heard someone say that, and would need to talk to them further to understand what they meant. Neither of us are good at reading/writing Khmer. Thanks for the info!

In English, it is common to use two comparatives in one statement such as " The harder you study, the easier it gets." or even just by using 'more' as in " The more you study, the more you learn.
Does anyone know the Khmer version of this, if one exists ?
Could you please post the answer in Khmer script as it's the only way to really know the pronunciation.
Thanks
Well, we do. The form is: Kal Na/Pel na + sub + verb +....+ kann tae chroeurn + (space) + nuh + sub + kann tae + verb +.....

Firstly, let me appreciate your hard work in learning Khmer in dept this way. It is really amazing that you have known a lot about these words. I'm Cambodian, so let me help you more with understanding these words: រក (rouk), រកឃើញ (rouk kheunh), រកបាន (rouk ban), បាន(ban). We also have more in that series..., but let's focus on the four in here. Let's look at these sentences:

1. Q: What are you looking for? តើអ្នកកំពុងរកអ្វី? Toeu nehk kom pungng rouk ak-vey? In this meaning, រក = ស្វែងរក (svaeng rouk)
A: I'm looking for my key. Have you seen it? ខ្ញុំកំពុងរកសោរបស់ខ្ញុំ។ Knhom kom pung rok soa robors khnhom. ( 2 minutes later )
Q: Have you found it yet? តើអ្នករកវាឃើញរឺនៅ? toeu nehk rouk vea kheunh hoeuy reu nov? (for something you lost)
2. He has earned a lot recently. គាត់រកបានច្រើនណាស់ថ្មីៗនេះ។ Kott rouk ban chroeun nass tmey tmey nih (for profits/money)
Q: Have you found the right staff member yet? តើអ្នករកបានបុគ្គលិកស័ក្តិសមហើរឬនៅ? toeu nehk rouk ban buk-ka-loek sakk somm hoeuy reu nov?
A: Not yet. But I think I can find him. មិនទាន់នៅឡើយទេ។ តែខ្ញុំគិតថាខ្ញុំអាចរកបាន។ min tonn nov loeuy te. tae khnhom kit tha khnom ach rouk ban.
3. Did you do it? តើអ្នកបានធ្វើវារឺ? toeu nehk ban tvoeu vea reu? (to form past tense)
A: Don't call me!
B: Ok....(you feel down about it and want to revenge it) បាន ban (like, two can play at that game!)

រកបាន and បានរក are completely different, bro. Look at these examples:
1. គាត់រកបានច្រើនណាស់ថ្មីៗនេះ។ He has earned a lot lately. (រកបាន here means that you have earned a lot of profit/money)
2. តើឯងបានរកវាហើយរឺនៅ មុននឹងស្រែកថាមិនឃើញ? Have you been in search of it yet before you're shouting that you can't find it? (បានរក is a past tense of រក ; we add បាន before the verb to form a past tense)

Yeah. Gan tai (fill in blank), gan tai (blank)

Ex. Gan tai mean luy, gan tai mean srei
The more money (you have), the more women.

You can also substitute “gan” with “rit”.

Khmer script if it comes thru on this board:

កាន់តែ ____, កាន់តែ_____
