I think the word in the OP's title should be rediscovered. Then promoted in that very French way. isn't that when the French decided to build the museum in PP? The English language history books always condemn the French for a popularized history of the importance of Angkor Wat to the Khmer. Are you saying that this isn't true OP?

The French discovered it for the West. Cambodians, Thais and Chinese knew that it was there. The French looked around at the hovels that surrounded Angkor Wat and wondered where the people went that built that wat. A question that seems reasonable even today. Outside of Vann Molyvann can you name a world famous architect from Cambodia?

Silliest debate in history. Angkor Wat is discovered by thousands every day. It's not a one-off process. Nor is being the first person to clap eyes on something the be all and end all of things.

It is just a bit different if you read some books in Khmer language. It said the first man who found Angkor Wat was French. According to the incription of king Ang Chan, Angkor Wat was not completely abandoned after we moved the city from Angkor. Of course French was not the first man who dicovered Angkor Wat ,but he brought Angkor Wat to the world.
