Question about the word រហូត

As topic says... on រហូត
What do you think is the best way to translate this word into English? "forever", "always", "constantly", "continuously", "all the time"? Or no exact English equivalent, perhaps shouldn't be so pedantic about the translation? I have been using it for years but was wondering what other people thought about its particular nature. What are your thoughts/knowledge?

រហូត/លហូត means that you are constantly doing something, and, in most dictionaries, it is incorrectly translated at "forever", which is actually ដរាបណា. Conversely, ដរាបណា is often incorrectly translated as "whenever" in most dictionaries. However, there is really no translation for "whenever".

រហូត rɔhoot
1a. prenp. until, up to, all the way to, as far as, through.
1b. adv. to the very end, for ever; all the time; without intermission; from then on, permanently

Yes that's pretty much why I asked the question - For a long time I assumed it meant "forever" due to dictionaries, but now after watching it in use for so long it seems closer to "constantly", to me. For "whenever", I say "ពេលណាក៏បាន".

yeah it pretty much means in the ways you have said, it often gets used in songs when describing their feelings and how they "miss/love/hate/hurt/etc" - "all the time/always/continuously/forever"
its a word i often use also

I would say the most accurate translation of រហូត is permanently.

Some of the other English words being discussed can be used in different ways, in some situations they would mean រហូត, and in others they wouldnt.

You dont say, I will love you permanently. You may say, I will always love you. In this sentence, 'always' means រហូត.

But if you say, I always get to school on time. In this sentence always does not mean រហូត.
