Pursat Province: According to the publication of the Pursat Provincial Administration, a press release was issued on social media about the Buddha statue in the area of Wat Veal, Phsar Leu Village, Sangkat Lolok Sor, Pursat City, Pursat Province. Many people consider that the style of the Buddha's face is not appropriate because it is not refined enough for a Buddha.

This Buddha statue was built in 2009 under the initiative of the Chief Inspector of Wat Veal in Phsar Leu Village, Pursat City, created by Cambodian philanthropists who are very generous in the field of Buddhism, and was built 29 meters high and 21 meters wide.

However, according to the present chief abbot of Wat Veal, Chum Saroeun, the construction of the Buddha statue was done by a craftsman with little knowledge and limited technique, and there was no proper style according to the rules, which could have caused some mistakes. As such, the Buddha should benefit from improved correction of the face carving.

Therefore, Pursat Provincial Administration will advise the specialized departments to cooperate with the technicians and the pagoda chief to evaluate any shortcomings in detail which should be corrected during the upcoming works.

That's a shame they want to change it, really. I find it has its own unique charm (much like the "ugly" Buddhas in Myanmar) and that it will grow on the public if allowed to, but sadly that may never be the case now. :- (

It's been there for 14 years, if it hasn't grown on the public by now it never will.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
