Old hands and feet.

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Old hands and feet.

Post by taabarang »

I ran into an interesting idiom the other day. While English speaking people refer to a highly experienced
person as an "old hand"Cambodians call them an old foot.

Thol chia jiang moto lbey; goat chia jeoung chas chuachul moto.

Thol is a faous moto mechanic; he is an old hand at fixing motos.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

I don't know about the '' old hands '' bit, but my first Cambodian g/f called me '' akka jah '' or something like that, a few times when she was ''upset'',,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I think it means ''Darling I love you ''

Please don't tell me I'm wrong.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I am sure you have already known the meaning of this word. However for those who don't know the meaning of this word, it means old guy. It is really rude word to address old people, the one that is reallllllllllly old. We only use it when we are so mad.
