Kheng.info - Online Khmer/English Audio Dictionary

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Kheng.info - Online Khmer/English Audio Dictionary

Post by kheng.info » Tue Jun 03, 2014 8:05 pm

For those of you interested in learning the Khmer language, check out Kheng.info, a Khmer/English audio dictionary.

This project started largely because I was struggling to find good resources for learning Khmer. There are a couple features that make Kheng.info very different from existing dictionary websites:
  • Contains over 3000 audio recordings of the most frequent Khmer words (determined by a word frequency count on a huge Khmer text corpus).
  • Search results are ordered by frequency, which is especially useful when searching common words like "make" or "come" which match against thousands of definitions.
  • Supports searching with regular expressions and searching IPA entries.
  • Features word segmentation software that makes reading Khmer easy, even for a total beginner, by splitting up text and hyperlinking to definitions and audio.
  • Various other resources such as extensive category pages, word frequency lists, etc.
Kheng.info is a work in progress, so if you have any feedback or questions, please let me know. Hopefully you all will find it as useful as I have for learning Khmer!

Great site, it encouraged me to (finally) have Khmer script installed on my computer, so I now see the actual text/words instead of the squares. :thumb:

Awesome! Having a good handle on the script is really helpful.

So glad to see the positive feedback so far. I'll be adding some things in the near future like frequency lists of common Khmer family and given names (with recordings eventually too), information on prepositions and other 'function words', information on common spelling variations and typing in Khmer, etc., so look out for that!
