Jumping back and forth over accident victim

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Jumping back and forth over accident victim

Post by atst »

I just heard a crash look along the road see couple Moto's down two guys out of it on the road, a security guard runs over and does this quick jumping back and forth over the guys on the road before he then tends to them.
No helmets they don't look to good hope I'm wrong and thier not to bad.
Cops were not far away it's been less than 5 minutes now ambulance already here amazingly quick
Or was the security guy just panicking ?
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

In Thailand the first thing they do is shake the victims to wake them up.

the three hops over the body is to contain the ghost's travels,(readers a little help?) or spirits that reside inside the newly passed or in this case the possibly newly passed away, there is a good video of the same on here somewhere...

I hope these guys are ok too, but please take it easy atst, that is some very disturbing stuff to witness and it will likely affect you more than you can contain it

The quick jumps have to do with spirits / ghosts trying to leave the deceased, not with panicking. If the guard did that the accident might have ended badly.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, I've just walked past and the security guy is not there, I presume hes gone home feeling a bit shook up but he should be proud of what he did, I wasn't amused by the way he and the police picked the guys up off the road but, unlike back home we try not to move them and wait for ambulance arrive.
