Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Why? You will be fine without knowing them. We don't use them quite often in writing.
Because I am learning to write Khmer, and I can never remember which way these go!
If you remember Srak Ai(vowel Ai) then you will know how to write 6.
5 is similar 4.
And 7 is similar 2.
Thanks - is the k at the end of srak pronounced?

ស្រៈ

I wouldn't expect any k sound at the end. I don't hear a k sound at the end.

i don't know how people here learn how to read khmer. it is really challenging. I think first you need to learn our 33 consonants and more than 50 vowels. This might requires a tutor. Let hear from other expats experiences.

I have used reankhmer.com quite frequently and found it very useful for learning the writing and correct pronunciation. It costs money but I forget how much, not a lot though.

Yep, definitely with a tutor because pronunciation is king.

How is your progression? Can you read? English is easier. :)

yeah especially with khmer i learn through friends, i either ask them what something means that they speak, or i find something and ask how they pronounce, because its normally different, which makes writing khmer in Romany english very difficult
