how superstitious are camies?

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

how superstitious are camies?

Post by bolueeleh »

recently i had an episode of my worker falling ill due to "gods" possessing his body and making demands for offerings, after i had made all the offerings these episodes still occurs, i have had it with all these superstitious mambo jambo, i personally believe in an energy remaining after death, but "gods" asking for cigarettes, rice wine, sweets, fruits, betel nuts? not once but twice i might add,COME ON, COME ON COME ON.

anybody has the same frustration as me?

Could be worse, my 'gods' ask for cigars, fine wine, caviar, grapes, and pistachios (and the odd srey kromom). You've got it easy!

Back on topic . . .

Today at the riverside enjoying a beer, I saw another barang customer hand over a $2 bill to pay for their Angkor draft. The shop wouldn't accept it. Even after checking with the owner.

Apparently $2 bills can bring bad luck.

Interesting, just a few years ago they brought good luck; there's definitely less of those bills around.

If *camies* refers to Host-Country-Nationals, the answer is all over the place.

The woman had an Ides-of-March day recently in which she refused to
leave the house, convinced that something horrid would befall her if she did

Most other times she's fairly rational.
