Here is a free Khmer learning App with native pronounciation

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Here is a free Khmer learning App with native pronounciation

Post by dev1 »

HI. I am a Korean volunteer who is working in Cambodia for three years now.

First of all, it is free and I am not intend to get any money from this app (not even plan to put any Ad. on the app). My purpose is to help anyone who is struggling to learn the language like me before.

When I first came here there were almost no means of studying Khmer with native pronouncition. There were some materials to teach words, sentences and grammars but pronounciations were written in English like the google translator (Anyone who tried the google translation would know that the written pronouncitation is totally useless. There just do not understand you if you read those). I had to learn by myself and it took a lot of time and efforts. So I did not want to others to follow my trail and it has been my project to develop something.

And finally it's finished now and launched at the google play recently(iOS app is now on the launching process). Now it has about 700-800 words and 100 sentences with native pronounciations. And my plan is to add 1000 more words and 500-1000 sentences within few months.

Since I recorded whole sound files in my car with iPhone, it is not a studio quality and design of the app is not so fancy right now. But I am planning updates for those, too.

I am also running a website as a supplement, too. (http://learn-khmer.net) Please check that out, too.

I don't know how much time I can contribute to the website and the app after I go back to my country but I will do my best.

Following link is the app on the google play.

Thanks for reading the post.
