Re: Expected cost of a wedding - PP in December
The main guy from what I've ever read is PSD Kiwi he knows it all (in a good way) ...are you under 50 by the way.. Could get tricky. As I know you can do a blessing / party but if it's seen as a wedding it's a problemphilip.smith wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 4:51 pmIs there any up to date guide on all the information needed and the process?Kammekor wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 4:25 pmYou can try to have your foreign wedding certificate recognized by MoFA, but small chance you'll succeed. The Cambodian government no longer supports marriages abroad, to put it mildly.philip.smith wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 4:12 pm What's the process and paperwork like for someone who married outside of Cambodia?
Do you need to do the health, character, interviews with the anti people trafficking, hundreds in bribes?
The other way is legally getting married in Cambodia. If you can present all the correct paperwork it'll cost you about 350 USD. If you can't you're looking at 1000 or more.

Both in our late 20s. Both living outside of Cambodia - only returning for 5 weeks at the end of the year.
If we do make it an official marriage, that is do the paperwork, shouldn't be any issues?

No issues with the authorities if you have a 'permission to get married'.philip.smith wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 6:04 am Both in our late 20s. Both living outside of Cambodia - only returning for 5 weeks at the end of the year.

Why go through all the hassle? Just rename the party.

Well, my concern is with the authorities getting the impression that if it looks like a duck and talks like a duck.. And $350usd seems easy enough?

For 350 USD it's not going to be easy, and collecting & legalizing the documents needed will cost you as well.philip.smith wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 9:41 amKammekor wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 9:03 amNo issues with the authorities if you have a 'permission to get married'.philip.smith wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 6:04 am Both in our late 20s. The whole marriage procedure will take about 3 months for that fee (MoFA: 1 month, MoI: 2 months) for the 350 USD fee, so that would mean another visit to Cambodia, but maybe you already planned one? For that fee all your documents have to be correct, and in my experience it's unlikely you will be able to present all (legalized) documents needed.

Street weddings don't appear to be illegal in the part of Phnom Penh I'm in, as there's been two in the last fortnight. Is there a boundary? Oh, and all parties are cash events, the amount paid would be equivalent to the status of the party, location and quality of the food and drink. Ones with a bottle of Johnny walker on the table you would expect to be a minimum of $40 per head. Assuming the grub is half decent. And your band. You'll need that or else people will sneak off early and cheap out on you. As you are assumed to be making the money out of the party for the party you get to pay at the end once you've cashed up.
Re: Expected cost of a wedding - PP in December
You can't, because you're already legally married. One of the requirements is that you both provide a certificate of no impediment/single status, which you will not be able to.philip.smith wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 6:04 am If we do make it an official marriage, that is do the paperwork, shouldn't be any issues?

So only option is to host a renewal of vows, with the local sangkat authorisation and some dosh? Say we do that, leave the words 'marriage' and 'wedding' out of the picture will it still attract attention from the authorities?

Pre-emptively discuss with and offer the local authorities a sufficient amount of money such that they will graciously direct traffic, guard your tent, and drink your ABC at your non-wedding party.philip.smith wrote:So only option is to host a renewal of vows, with the local sangkat authorisation and some dosh? If you just setup a bon that looks at all weddingy, you'll quickly get a feature in the local press (and CEO) for holding an illegal ceremony.
