Days, Months, Seasons (In Khmer Language)

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Days, Months, Seasons (In Khmer Language)

Post by Samouth »

For those who have been living here for years might have already learned all of these or perhaps they are using them everyday with their Cambodian students. Therefore this first khmer lesson is mainly for those who have just moved or planned to move to Cambodia.
A friend of mine on facebook introduced me to this forum as he believed that since i am a Cambodian, so i might have something to share about my culture, country and people with CEO members and more importantly to help them with their khmer lessons ( Especially for those who are interested in learning Khmer). Please let me know whether you guys like it or not. Also if you find this lesson boring, please let me know and i ain't gonna post more lessons. :D

Good stuff Samouth!
Can you read and write Khmer? If you can please add Khmer script to your lists. Thanks!

Did you know that according to According to ancient Cambodian writings there were six seasons of 59 days each: ហេមន្តៈ, រដូវរងា cold season; សិសិរៈ, រដូវរងាខ្លាំង very cold season; វសន្តៈ, រដូវស្លឹកឈើលាស់ season of growth (in trees); គិម្ហៈ, រដូវក្ដៅ hot season; វស្សានៈ, រដូវភ្លៀង rainy season; សរទៈ, រដូវចុះអ័ព្ទ foggy season.

Now we must be in the very cold season
