Coconut vendor earns more than univ graduate.

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

It's total bullshit, but what is true is that a person who didn't go to university and one who did will earn roughly the same wage. Tons of university graduates make 150-250$/month. Waiters/waitresses, cooks and so forth can often earn the same. The point about professions isn't really valid here either, because most do learn a profession. The problem is the high number of graduates and relative low level of education. Making people fail grade 12 was the first step in a much needed education reform. Most khmers realize that being a small business owner in Cambodia is much favourable than being an employee.

I don't agree either. It is much more than one thousand.

Proof? That's an easy one.

The coconut vendor is successful and hires staff. He'll of course pay peanuts. Therefore he'll get monkeys.
Now who would be better qualified to get other coconuts and thus contribute to the bottom line in a virtuous spiral?

That. It sucks to have been on that first wave of failures, but a huge step in the right direction.

Agree. The next step is stop the phony degree system.

And coconuts can be picked for almost free and sold for 3000r a piece, so that's a good mark up - for those who are enterprising and agile.
