Chbab Srey - Code and Conduct for Khmer Women

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

I tried to follow them because I don't want everyone call me " Srey Khat Leak".
hahaha you might have to explain them what srey khat leak mean. :)
I hope you can help me to explain them about it.

I don't know how to explain about this word. Srey Khat Leak opposite to Srey Krup Leak( perfect girl). My parents told me not laugh or walk loudly, people will call me Srey Khat Leak. If woman holds her husband's head or step over her husband while he is sleeping, we also call them Srey khat Leak. It means bad girls who don't behave proper. Even my name means perfect but i can't be a perfect girl.

no one can be perfect. No thing. It's a stupid concept. An old landlady used to say "always aspire to something higher". The wisdom of age.

You should behave how you want, little moon. I think marrying a man who is so traditional as to care about this stuff or judge you is a bad idea anyway, as he probably holds very conservative views on women's rights and will treat you like property. I agree with taabarang completely on this... khmer women are held to ridiculous standards and there is no reason for it except "tradition" and sexism.

The bias toward men in Cambodian modern culture is staggering for a matriarchal society but I won't complain.

With all due respect to Samouth, it appears to me that the Khmer women are actually the more capable and enterprising of the two sexes.

I think this comes from the way male children are brought up that assures women have control over the most important family decisions.

Women here seem to be more comfortable with risk than men, and I have noticed most of the small businesses are run or owned by women.
