The Preah Vihear temple has been classed as a world heritage site ever since July 8, 2008, and Sombor Prei Kok Temple more recently joined the distinguished group on July 7, 2017.

To celebrate this, the government has decided to make 15 July a day of national celebration for the two temple sites. The government has been celebrating many Cambodian cultural events recently which aim to increase national pride.

I first misread. Thinking all where going to the site for the celebration.

The land to the left of the temple of this magnificent site looks inviting. Hope no one as plans.

I was at Sambor Prei Kuk last week. The ticket price has gone up from $3 to $10 since it got UNESCO status. It's still not a bad price if you have a few hours to explore the site though.

The goose doesn't have many more golden eggs. They better stop trying to kill her. Nobody will pay $10 to pay homage to the skyscrapers of Phnom Penh or the deserts of Mondul/Ratanakiri.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

A quick taste of the celebration attended by the PM at the Olympic stadium on Sunday, 15th July.

Prime Minister HE yesterday promised to maintain peace along the Kingdom’s borders and ensure prosperous development as he delivered a speech marking the tenth anniversary of Preah Vihear temple’s heritage listing.

Speaking to members of the armed forces, public figures and students at Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh to celebrate Preah Vihear’s listing as a Unesco World Heritage site, Mr HE said that border patrol police will cooperate with neighbouring countries to create “peace, friendship and development”...

India to help Cambodia renovate Lord Shiva temple
Aug 29, 2018, 16:52 IST
PHNOM PENH: India on Wednesday signed an MoU with Cambodia to help the Southeast Asian nation on restoration and preservation of an ancient Lord Shiva temple, a world heritage site.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed after external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj held wide-ranging talks with her Cambodian counterpart Prak Sokhonn.

The temple in remote Preah Vihear, which is also known as the 'Temple of Preah Vihear', dates back to the first half of the 11th century AD. Situated on the edge of a plateau that dominates the plain of Cambodia, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

According to the Unesco, the temple is composed of a series of sanctuaries linked by a system of pavements and staircases over an 800 metre long axis. Its complex history can be traced to the 9th century, when the hermitage was founded.

This site is particularly well preserved, mainly due to its remote location and is exceptional for the quality of its architecture, which is adapted to the natural environment and the religious function of the temple, as well as for the exceptional quality of its carved stone ornamentation.
