Cambodia's dynastic succession coming into view

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Cambodia's dynastic succession coming into view

Post by Teddy1 »

Great article on the succession of HM , son of HE. ASIATIMES.COM (link below)
Thanks David Hutt for quoting me on "Cambodia’s succession coming into view" in VOA Khmer: Sophal Ear, associate professor of Diplomacy and World Affairs at Occidental College in Los Angeles, says that Beijing is after “continuity of business,” both in the sense of China’s money-making enterprises in Cambodia and its geopolitical power projection in the region. “So long as secret agreements are honored, [and Phnom Penh continues its] unwavering support for China’s stance on the South China Sea, Xinjiang, and Hong Kong security law, they’ll be happy,” he said.
...
Opinions differ on why the US has rolled back its criticism. “Phnom Penh is too far gone into Beijing’s pocket, and no amount of coaxing is going to make it come out,” Sophal Ear says.

My entire life can be summed up in one sentence:
"Well that didnt go as planned".

Yeah, nobody's perfect. Try as I may, I do get it wrong. The future is unknowable. Am only human. In fact, when I shared the piece on FB, I knew it was in Asia Times, but it was late at night and I tagged Voice of America as the publisher (because there was another piece that came out at the same time on VOA so I swapped them in my mind). *Slap forehead emoji* Anyhow, as you are on the ground, I welcome your thoughts--am all ears.
