Cambodia celebrates annual Meak Bochea Day
Cambodia celebrates annual Meak Bochea Day
Khmer Times
Cambodia celebrated this morning on the top hill of Preah Reach Troap (Oudong) in Ponhea Leu district, Kandal province, where a stupa of Buddha’s relics is located, the annual Meak Bochea Day.
Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly, presided over the celebration with the participation of many high-ranking officials, civil servants and Buddhist followers.
Some 80 Buddhist monks invited to the event were offered foods, drink, and cash in order to pray for the soul of the deaths to rest in peace.
Cambodia, as well as other Buddhism-practicing countries, holds the event annually. It is an occasion where the Buddhist followers are reminded of Buddha and his teachings.
Meak Bochea commemorates a great meeting of Buddha and 1,250 disciples and it is the day where Buddha announced his passing away, which would happen three months later. He correctly predicted his death and it is now remembered as Visak Bochea Day (which also happens to be his birthday and enlightenment day). AKP

Temple time on Sunday for me. Missus will be busy tonight cooking for offerings to the monks.
Also tonight, grand opening of Paradise Cafe in Baytown, Texas. One of the few Khmer who doesn’t open donut shops.

No tuxes, just a rocking Khmer music loud party. Lots of Khmer girls dancing (married, of course), with their husbands getting drunk on expensive alcohol, and loads of Khmer food and sushi made to order. And kids running underfoot. Owner spared no expense.cabron wrote:Wow, it will bee the talk of the town, make sure that your tuxedo is steam or iron for this great occasion.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 8:22 pm Temple time on Sunday for me. Just hoping missus gets tired soon and wants to go home. She still has dishes to cook for temple tomorrow and wants to get there before the monks start chanting.
