Being Cambodian is so much unfortunate (not all)

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

If you try and do it the legal way it takes forever and you get a bunch of red tape. I brought my Thai wife (now Ex) to America and it took forever and phone calls/threats from my Congressman to the US Embassy in Bangkok to get her to the US. The key word there was "my wife" as we were legally married at the time, but that just made it worse.

Be like the millions of beaners illegally in the US and just walk across the border(s)

"Visa? Visa? We don't need no stinking Visa!"
I agree that enter the country illegally is much easier than go through with Visa application and stuff. As far as i know, currently there are so many illegal immigrants in USA and most of them are Mexican. As you mentioned, it is really easy for them, just accross the border. In addition, many Americans are not happy about it. So i actually don't want to be one of those illegal imigrants.

Only ignorant Americans who don't understand how our economy functions are upset about it. The rest of us are unhappy with the situation but because we feel that our laws are too strict and based on outdated thinking. We have this giant labor force that is here to stay; instead of pretending we're going to kick them out, we should be looking at ways to legalize their presence here.

In many major American cities, immigrants who came to the US illegally are granted amnesty and allowed to get IDs and other necessary paperwork to make their lives easier. Also, many "illegal immigrants" were actually brought here as children and grew up as Americans. Most Americans feel that these people should definitely be granted citizenship, but the Republican party is obstructing legislation (as they always do) and the president has been forced to act alone. Executive decisions don't do much because they can be overturned by the next president.

Other immigrants who get lumped in as "Mexicans" but are actually from other Central American countries (kind of like we're all "barang" here) are fleeing drug wars, so they should be considered refugees, but it'll be a cold day in hell before America ever does that.

As for it being easy to cross the border, not at all. It costs a lot of money (usually everything they have) to get smuggled across the border and is extremely dangerous. Many people do not survive. And then when they get here, they get to wash dishes for minimum wage (or less).

But the truth is that while Mexicans and Central Americans do make up a majority of our illegal immigrant population, we have illegal immigrants from all over the world and nobody would even know your status because you're Asian and Americans don't think "Asians" when they think illegal immigrants; they think "Mexicans" (i.e. Latinos). Nobody would even be looking for you. Of course, finding work would be difficult.

it could be argued that most of the planet can qualify for refugee status. Fleeing from no water/poor water, no food, AIDS rampant (southern africa, if not most of Africa might qualify really), drug wars, brutal governments, the high crime areas where dead bodies are found everyday, you name it.
