Appropriate "thank you" gift for a Khmer person?

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Appropriate "thank you" gift for a Khmer person?

Post by GAgirl678 »

Hi everyone -

I'm fairly new to Cambodia, and I would like to know what would be an appropriate "thank you" gift or gesture for a Khmer person. The building maintenance man at my office was kind enough to take me and my malfunctioning motorbike to his mechanic and stayed with me until they finished fixing it. I would love to bring him something small to say "thanks". Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I think you should buy him a $8 or $10 dollar T-shirt. I am sure he will be happy and grateful for it.

I'm with Stroppy on the fruit. $3 - $5, and he'll share it with his workmates, and everyone will love you.

Yes, I some fruit or money is better. I don't think every Khmer men like beer. Some of my friends and my brother don't drink even in the party because they it's not good for health.
