An Amazing of a Temple

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

An Amazing of a Temple

Post by MrB »

A TRULY INCREDIBLE DAY OUT

If you are city weary then a few days out would be beneficial & one place to see is Vibol, it is honestly amazing. I love this place to bits. It is my number one temple & I have seen hundreds. It is gentle calm, imposing but so beautiful.

I post two new forgotten temples every week, so do subscribe for more.

I am fascinated by these old temples, and would love to make the trip to visit them every couple of weeks. The only problem is that each time I would have to go out to the ticket office on the way to Angkor and buy a temple pass for $37, even if I was not actually going to the Angkor complex. This is what puts me off, and I just watch your videos instead. I understand that the ticket price helps pay for upkeep and maintenance, but as you see in most of the videos, these 'hidden temples' are not being maintained to any degree.

This temple does have a solitary guard. But the vast majority have on guard at all, they are open & freely available. Do subscribe to my channel as I post two videos every week & there are so many you can see without a pass. Videos now book all the way to December, so over 100 videos ready to publish.

Thanks. I have watched a lot of your videos. Is it possible for you to identify each time if temple pass required, maybe in the video title or the opening narrative?

apart from the very interesting temples/movies I am very happy to see that those temples saved a life from beeing ruined. There is still some magic in those stones apparently.

I enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing. I think it would be a really good idea to get any Cambodian to go through the pronunciation of these places a few times before you record. Stressing Khmer words in the same way that you think it should be stressed in English absolutely kills them. Any motodop/drink seller/temple beggar will help.

Funny, I was in the area the other day but skipped it (was coming back from Bateay Srei and decided to stop elsewhere instead after debating whether or not to stop by Vibol).

its to bad that temples outside the Angkor complex dont all just charge individual fees ( like koh ker and Banteay Chhmar do)
otherwise.....

agree as the above;
at the beginning of each video tell if they charge and if so how much or if you need the $37 Angkor ticket ( if so well, that not on my list to visit)
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Answering the above questions:

The charge is very flexible with temples, but 95% of those I video have no charge, and then of that 5% there may be a guard there may not. Sci I dont want to lead anyone astray, so please do check on the web if you have any doubts but is 95%+ unlikely. I will try to mention when charge is needed on videos as is a good idea.

Pronunciation is a wild topic as one single temple can has as many as three names & two spelling so each of those. So I do go with the most common & that is also written at the front to every video to help you. So please refer to those, if not I have grid co ordinates of each & every one.

Two new temples every single week so do subscribe.
