Everyone has hated the owner forever but the place is still going. I always quite liked it but knew the ground rules of course. I heard of Tony's demise when I was back recently. Quite a funny story of him taking a series of girls back to the UK and then they would leave him on their return. He was a good bloke, tough as fuck.

Shame really, the place had a reputation of having the prettiest girls..
Strikes me it was always a misnomer too..didn't know what country he was in..
And despite chef changes, the food was always very average..

I am a fan of Shanghai Bar. It's definitely not your typical Hostess Bar, and that's kind of its appeal.JohnLeonard wrote:Well i never paid a bar fine or drinks but had a great time with one of the ladies there last November, i had to wait for her shift to be over only and she would always come to my place almost every other night, she didn't ask for anything except one time she asked to watch with her a movie in Aeon Mall, Shanghai is very good bar, the manager German guy peter is doing good job, RIP to the previous manager who passed away i heard.

RIP Shanghai. Years ago it was filled with 30 hot 20-24 year old girls. Now it's got maybe a half dozen old ladies who have already had kids. Still seems to stay busy, but not with my money. I only go to girlie bars with girls.

The BBQ's were awesome. I think it was $7. Came with a freeflow of 90 minutes, Wow. We always got our monies worth.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 2:48 pm Shame really, the place had a reputation of having the prettiest girls..

That's true. I walked in there the last time and was was excited when I heard a girl yell "Gonk!," but it was one of the same girls that was yelling it 10 years ago too.dron wrote:RIP Shanghai. They definitely need to get new staff sometime.

That's actually incredibly sad. Ten years in the girlie bar game and you don't find a way out, you're gonna be in a worse situation than you started in.

Talk about popping all the balloons at the party.
Anyway, I certainly loved going to Shanghai, but it was so long ago I can't remember. Maybe 2006ish and afterward. It had a bit of a classy nature.

Ha! That's pretty much the last time I hung around there either. It's been running for a long time, at least 20 years. It always had very well groomed staff, but they were never in any way pushy. Shanghai was the kind of place where you would get completely ignored/ left alone if you wanted, and you'd have to be around a few times before you'd even get noticed. It was never a hostess bar, just a place with very pretty and well-turned out waitresses. I have zero interest in going to bars in that area these days but you could do worse than that place.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I only go there as i don't like the hustle of being chased around for drinks or being squeezed in small place that smells urine and cigarettes.
In Shanghai if you want to be quite and enjoy the music just go upstairs to the blue room and you can sit there with the DJ or the girls who are not pushy at all.
