Wallet Stolen at 69 Bar, Phnom Penh, Street 136 (girly bar)

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

no, they're great places to chat and drink with girls and to eventually pick them up, but you should never lower your shields, never carry a wallet or credit cards, never put the girls and especially the nasty mamasans in temptation.

these are not proper bars, they're hostess bars, big difference.
a tourist trap, but it doesn't imply they're not safe if you follow the rules and use a bit of common sense.

My solution, a biker wallet with chain attached to your belt. Not for everyone, but has worked for me for years.(those old bikers ain't dummys when it comes to hanging onto their cash when drinking and/or in the wind.) Getting on in years it also combats forgetfulness such as leaving your wallet on the bar after paying.

When I travel, it may look old-school and nurdy, but a fanny pack with plastic coated steel cable attached to contents inside and your belt. I invented that 30 years ago and have never lost a thing. At the pickpocket rich notorious Train station in Bangkok, I've had pickpockets circle me trying to figure out what the white line was attaché to my fanny pack. BTW/ The steel cable is from a sailboat shop and has nicropressed end loops. My present fanny pack is a high end leather one that was actually a quick-draw gun holster/fanny-pack I used in the States. It fit my compact .45acp semi-auto just fine and now serves me well when traveling.

When going out to drink I only carry as much money as I would throw in the middle of the street. (also a great tactic to remember if you have a mob of thieves/thugs chasing you.)

Packsafe market quite a range of anti theft bags and wallets with stainless steel wire in the straps and slash proof material consisting of steel wire mesh laminated between nylon. I have been using their gear since they started in 1998 and its pretty good.

If I know I'm out to get hammered, it's just a billfold and when it's gone - it's gone. It keeps me from hitting an ATM, purchasing hangover juice, and buying another 50 lady drinks. A few rubber bands around your wallet makes it tough on pickpockets and tough to fall out. A cop in Rome showed me this trick a million years ago after I got clipped by a couple pros.

Did someone really edit the title to clarify that 69 Bar is a girly bar?

I assume we all know to keep our wallet or billfold in our front pocket, and when having pants made, get the pockets a little deeper? Makes it MUCH more difficult on pickpockets.
