Siem Reap KTV’s 2024

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

Siem Reap KTV’s 2024

Post by Talent_hunter »

Hi guys,

I’ll visit Siem Reap with a small group of friends in Spring 2024 and would like to ask the expats and experts about KTV’s there. We are barang talent hunters who care less for the absolute pitch and more for other natural talents  of beautiful singers.

1. Are there any not family oriented KTV’s worth to visit ‘not just because of singing’?
2. Are they safe? How big is the chance we won’t be scammed?
3. Are there two menus with different prices to expect? Should we have a local guy who’d support us in reaching the right menu?
4. What are the costs of the room, drinks, company and all the official part of the entertainment?
5. Do the singers present any hidden talents on site?
6. Do they sing in hotel rooms? What is the expected cost of a short-term or a long-term contract?
7. Or should we forget KTV’s, buy potato chips at 7-eleven and find the talents on Sok San Road?

1. No, all KTV's are purely family oriented in Cambodia.
2. Shootings are frequent, scam 100%.
3. There are many many menus, all more expensive than the other.
4. There is no set cost, it depends how much they can take from you.
5. Many have hidden penises, we call them ladyboys.
6. They sing like shit.
7. Get one of those fish foot massages and call it a night.

KTVs in Cambodia have many small rooms with a TV that you and your friends sing to videos on the screen and order snacks and drink beer for a fixed period of time. The non family oriented ones have a line of girls sitting in chairs that can be rented out to keep you ‘company’ while you sing. These girls are more useless than an ordinary bar girl.

I’ve never heard of a barang KTV girl or a barang bar girl.

Maybe what you are thinking of is a Khmer beer garden with an open mike?

Or a barang hostess bar with acts of professional bands and singers? Or maybe a barang bar with open mike nights?

Good luck with your quest.

You might be able to find a Filipino bar/restaurant ... they famously love karaoke and are excellent cover bands too. Here in PP Memates is really great. Free karaoke, good food, friendly English-speaking staff, and good house band. Good luck. KTVs are often #supersketch.

Oh, my English skills are too poor for so complicated matters. I should have written:

We are barang talent-hunters
We are barangs, we are talent hunters
We hunt for Khmer talents

I was once driven to a venue like Kersokole or Platinum in SR and liked it very much. But I didn’t dare to stay as I was alone and didn’t understand the idea of KTV’s. Now I want to have some fun with my friends but we are afraid of a 1000-dollar-bill and don’t know if we’ll get more than just singing.

The small KTV’s on Khmer Pub Street are another interesting option.

Forget anything more than in room singing. The other talents you will have to scout outside the venue unless the KTV owners knows & trusts you very well.

OP has a confusing request.

He is a foreigner that wants to hunt for Khmer singing talent at a KTV. Yet doesn’t want to be socked with a thousand dollar bill for doing so. All in sleepy Siem Reap, not Phnom Penh where a much larger pool of talent exists.

Khmer singing talent usually sing in Khmer, and perform in Khmer places. I’m assuming he speaks Khmer in order to find them.

The culture is to flash the cash, even if there is no cash. Yet he wants to be stingy.

Not sure 10 million men before him has such a confusing set of requests.

Khmer having singing talent programs - Cambodian Idol, Voice, etc., broadcast from AEON Mall. It’s done before an audience. Maybe he and his friends can get tickets?

Not sure OP is looking for vocal talents, my guess would be oral (and the extension of those) talents.

But maybe I am over-gifted with a dirty mind.

Guys, thank you for your replies.

You read between the lines. Thank you for explaining my question that was probably worded too euphemistically.
Yet he wants to be stingy.
I don’t want to. I have to.
Or at least I don’t want to be forced paying four million Riels for six cans of Achor and one Lok Lak.
These girls are more useless than an ordinary bar girl.
Forget anything more than in room singing. The other talents you will have to scout outside the venue unless the KTV owners knows & trusts you very well.
These make me feel sad.
Are those stories about KTV girls dancing on tables after losing their bikinis, or performing in nearby short time hotels just fantasy or advertisement?
