Not just hookers!?!?

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

Funny, that wasn't my experience last time I was there. A reputable masseur came out with me and ended up in my hotel. I actually couldn't get rid of her. And then on the same trip, i happened upon a small cafe with pool table miles out of town towards Svay Pak and the girl in the shop ended up coming straight out to play that afternoon and night. Non hookers, nil $$ requested or exchanged.
If that was so, why your initial post?
That was a long time ago.......Im trying to get new, topical information for this trip, COVID and the passing of time have surely changed things a bit

From the tone of your post it sounded like you were going to Cambo for the first time. Now it turns out that is not the case and you in fact had considerable success on your last trip. Why are you asking on this forum when it seems you have a better track record than most would expect especially for a first timer. Indeed, there are a few on here that could probably do better asking YOU for advice!

OML
As mentioned, yes most of the members are male, and each one in a different stage of their life. Granted many may get stuck in one stage a little longer than others, but it is real life. Not as safe or pretty as in the developed countries, but so many people here really live in wretched conditions, some locals and some expats. I wish there were more women who would participate in this forum, it would make it more interesting, lively, better. But they would have to be prepared to see some things that are out in the open here, but hidden under the surface in the developed world. I mean this is a country where my Khmer mother in law keeps some cash on had to pay the firemen or ambulance. If her house catches on fire she said if she doesn't pay, they will drive away. If somebody has a moto accident, people will rush to them, but not as in the developed countries to give aid, often, not always, but often they will be rushing to see what they can steal.

If you are a woman please stay on the forum, give your ideas, ignore the ignorants when they slam you. We need you here. Keep posting.
I wish I knew a whole lot more, or a whole lot less.

Hookers are perfect for you. Don't fight it mate.

They love 1 month guys. You have pockets full of cash, are price accustomed to a high cost society (Australia in your case) and are in full party mode. You have a month, and you are going to make every day count. They see you as a 30 day ATM and they will take real good care of you as long as the ATM keeps spitting out money. Just don't get bogged down in one bar and/or with one girl. You are pure gold in street 136 so go and swim in your correct pond and don't waste your precious time on a 'normal girl'.

'Normal girls' are unlikely to speak anywhere near enough English to hold even a basic conversation and by the time the main course arrives will probably be busy on her phone (20 something girls are like that). Having a conversation over dinner by text is truly sad and soul destroying. Oh, by the way, the moment she finds out you live in a hotel in Riverside they'll know you are just a visitor (It will be one of the first 5 questions).

Most girls in 136 can hold a basic conversation, or at least pretend they can, and as long as they smile and laugh at your jokes - who cares?

If you happen upon a waitress or some shop worker that wants to play (for payment or payment in kind) then consider it a bonus. She's probably not as virtuous as you might think!

…And while some of these women are doing it out of desperation, many of them do have other choices, but would simply rather do the easier job that will also allow them to have that fancy new phone a lot quicker.
What other choices?

Factory, salon, shop clerk, restaurant, petrol station,...shall I go on? oh - they could always marry a khmer guy and start a small family business. But it is way much more fun hanging out with your girlfriends in a bar and getting drunk every night in the hope that some John falls in love with you. It's a supply and demand issue. While Johns keep coming here to take advantage of the poverty these people are in (which is 100% what they are doing even if they don't recognize it), the 'supply' will always be here. It's all quite sad really.
You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone? That's common sense leaving your body.

Any of the thousands of different hustles that non-hookers do to survive? Or are hookers too useless to do what "ordinary" Cambodians do?

Weird, the limited view of Khmer girls. There are many very beautiful, very bright, college educated who speak excellent English, which they have studied since a small child. And they do not end up as "Factory, salon, shop clerk, restaurant, petrol station,.." girls. And these are the girls that (thankfully) the OP or guys like him will never have a chance to meet. They never go out to bars, nor want to, they do party, but with family, friends, and have fun, but don't get drunk to do it. They end up with good paying jobs and have zero interest in meeting a foreigner to marry or anyone like the OP. They marry equally well educated, decently well off Khmer guys.
I wish I knew a whole lot more, or a whole lot less.
