Mongering in the low season

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

An NGO did a tour of some (barang-owned) bars in PP doing tests and they were all clear. But by all means keep telling yourself this if it helps you resist temptation. Saves you money if nothing else.

I heard that the same NGO did a tour of girly bars and gave all the women IQ tests.

They all tested negative.

Don't assume these maidens are lying there waiting for a potential punter prince to come along with a view to offering a lower cost/higher service coz it's low season..

Some of them simply go back to the farm or whatever and drift back when the punter numbers are up and good times are back. :smileinbox:

And your point is - all 71,000 are bar girls?

Sure, but there's a whole big world outside those few bars. There was an AIDS epidemic here in the early 90s and for a time this country had one of the highest rates of transmission in the world.
However, since then successful public awareness and health care programs have helped result in a huge decline in new cases.
Studies of working girls around the various parks, low-rent KTV/ Massage joints or elsewhere on the margins would likely reveal quite different results from those of city center hostess bars.
And those groups aren't mutually exclusive either.... 8-)
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I have an idea, why don't you go to some bars and say this to their faces? You will learn some new Khmer words and you will guarantee that you won't be able to change your mind about not going with them?
