I think both parties are correct. Hostess bars are not brothels and most of the customers go there to enjoy, have few beers, and do not take girl(s) with them. But on the other hand every customer who enters the bar knows he can take (virtually) any girl with him if he so pleases. (assumption, man behaves well enough not to drive the girls away)

Also as per Wikipedia if bar owner gets part of girls earning (in some cases bar fine can be considered as part of the earning or assumed earning for the rest of the night, and not only deduction from the salary) they could be called as pimps since they
1. Provide place where prostitute may engage client (meet and agree to go with Client)
2. Provide protection to girls (to some extend)

This doesn't mean that I would ever call them such, to me they’re just happy fellas with cool place to hang out.

If bar owners want to protect themselves to be assimilated with pimps they can run bar without girls, ban the girls from leaving the bar during working hours, or deduct absence (hour by hour, not lump sum) from their salary. But I personally hope that at least the two former won’t happen.

NokTang will be pleased to know that Loco Bar recently raised it's price for a can of Anchor to 2.25. Standard lady drinks are still $3.50

Sounds cheap compared to P. Burgos st. in Makati where local beer is $3.6 and lady drink around $9. And depending on the girl you might not get anything for the drink. Some just hit the shot and if you don't give another make excuse and leave.
