I'm curious if any of you have ever bought a lady drink and then refused to pay for it due to the behavior of the girl you bought it for. I've only done this twice. Both times, it involved me (a) asking a girl if she wanted a drink, (b) her saying yes, and (c) the drink comes and is placed on the bar and the girl is nowhere to be found. OK, she's somewhere else in the bar and she's occupied with another customer or playing pool or something.

I'll usually give it 10 or 15 minutes, while I drink my own drink. If she doesn't come back to at least take a sip of the drink in 15 minutes, I get the bill and ask the bar to remove the drink. Which they will do, but it's always a big scene, and I feel like a cheap Charlie, and then the girl is embarrassed, but I don't see any other reasonable alternative.

Don't buy lady drinks. End of problem. I think the % of people who get kept company after the drink must be less than 5%, unless there's no one else in the bar.

Tell them you're gay, then they'll want to talk to you for free.

Surely, the reasonable alternative is to pay for the drink you ordered? Unless you entered into a contract with the bar girl to keep you company in exchange for a drink - you're not supposed to dictate how, when or with whom someone you bought a drink consumes it (or doesn't consume it).

Now, I'm not an expert on these things but I thought that was the whole point? You buy the girls drinks and then they keep you company.

That's right, which is why I'll generally throw the drink on the floor or smash it against a wall.
