GSM what's the appeal?

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

Thanks for the response LTO, what do you think they would build there, as in the real project? Do you think there is a correlation with all the bars opposite being for sale? Same owners perhaps?

Do you happen to know what is happening with that white elephant up from Titanic on the other side of the road, or that vacant building along the river front where that crappy bakery used to be?

I expect something large, either another mall or apartment/office structure or perhaps a housing block of 4-storey row houses all the way around the block. That's a prime piece of formerly state land (the old police station) in the heart of Duan Penh, some of the most expensive land in the country. They aren't going to leave some quansot hut of a market making pennies sitting on it for too long.

The source, who I cannot name (way too important LOL), is usually spot on about stuff but seems to have got this one wrong.
I seriously doubt it. GSM sits on a particularly spendy piece of land. In my assessment, GSM exists only as a place holder, put there after the crash of 2007-2008 instead of the much larger project that they had planned, pretty much just to fill the space and create a small income on the property until the real project begins. At some point probably not in the too distant future, the whole thing will be torn down and some much larger development put up in it's place. Question is, will it take the rest of the 51 bar scene with it when it goes.
Let's fucking hope so. It's like a Siren beckoning me. I can't help but stop in every few months.....I must. But I know that I'm going to get into trouble every freaking time....

theres a massive piece of undeveloped land at the back of GSM, at the moment its mostly used as a car park, they could build something the size of AEON mall there, if they demolished GSM and used the whole square, see this map link
