Gay Pride Week Cambodia 2017

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

Cambodia Gay Pride 2017
start date: 17-05-2017 | finish date: 22-05-2017

The Kingdom of Cambodia celebrates Gay Pride for the 3rd year. “I AM WHAT I AM” Gay Pride Week 2017, takes place on May 17th, in the week of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, and continues for one week until May 22nd.

The organisers have come together from hospitality and business sectors and LGBT community to provide a comprehensive program of seminars, workshops, cinema and parties to promote equality and support the LGBT people of Cambodia.

Following last year’s popularity, the Tuktuk Race will take to the streets on Saturday, May 20th. Phnom Penh’s prominent LGBT nightspots will host special events, BBQ evenings, cabaret shows, Mr Gay Cambodia and street parties.

This year’s highlights include a dance party at Valentino’s and Heart of Darkness club on Friday and Saturday, and recovery pool parties hosted by Rambutan Resort and Arthur & Paul.

The Bumblebee Cambodia Soap tuk-tuk will be a location and water point on the tuk-tuk treasure hunt - if you're a participant, or just spot us in the street, drop by and say hello.

You can say hello for free... and so can your "friend."

Seriously though, what are you asking? BC Soap is participating for free, the water is free to the participants. I don't know what the teams pay to participate, but last year they seemed to be having a good time. Mrs S and I were working at a market at Farm2Table with the team, selling soap, when out of the blue a small herd of hairy fairies (this is a literal description, not a slur) appeared in a noisy rush, took a selfie on the tractor, and then bolted. I ran through my medication list and though, nope, must have actually seen that, and a short time later it happened again, with a group of lovely ladies, and, err... "ladies", yet another selfie on the tractor, and off we go. Mrs S and I watched each other nervously to check that we were both seeing the same things, and then realised it was the Gay Pride Tuk-Tuk Scavenger Hunt. It looks like too much fun to not participate, so this year we're participating.

Some time ago we also had the Krispy Kreme's tuk-tuk arrive at church with a hundred dozen donuts to hand out for free as part of their opening promotion, but that's another story, kiddies.

Just trying to get a visual image of what's going on. I think you mentioned before that you're a "water point" or something, and I didn't understand what it all was.

I've never heard of anything like this.

Good to see that Gay Pride Week is just as confused as the rest of the year in Cambodia. According to the Cambodia daily, 2017 will be the 13th annual celebration of Cambodian GPW, not the 3rd year, as reported elsewhere. The dates are also different from the previous report. Here is a photo of the opening ceremony, marked clearly as 12 may 2017.
