Anybody stay at the New Castle1 Guesthouse in Phnom Penh.

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

Anybody stay at the New Castle1 Guesthouse in Phnom Penh.

Post by tomx2 »

Hi.
I posted here since this Guesthouse is in the red light area of Street 51.

Will be going to Phnom Penh for a week this coming October.
Previously stayed at the Flamingo Hotel but still closed for renovation.
Have walked by New Castle 1 Street 51 (next to Shanghai bar) in the past so familiar with the location.
The area is not that great looking, but just here a week and not looking for anything fancy.
A quick walk to Pontoon and Sorya Bars which I prefer,

So, just asking if any members stayed at the New Castle1 recently and would you recommend it for a week stay.

Do they have elevators?
Where can you leave your valuables?

Thanks.
T.

Just thank Dog Flamingo is being renovated.

Leave your valuables in your home country, never carry more than $100 on you.

Why not call them to get the details on the lifts and in-room safe situation.

And on the recommendation front, location wise, it's a good deal if you don't mind bedbugs and mould.

Newcastle 2 is just round the corner. Supposed to be quieter and better according to some friends who stay there regular.

No elevator in 1, I think there is one in 2. Safe deposit boxes are downstairs/reception area, not in the room. Can use their locks or bring your own. Make sure to get a room in the back, the front ones are noisy from the Heart and street noise at all hours of the day. The ones on the top floor even have a small/tiny balcony, if that's important, though they get pretty hot during the day/afternoon. All rooms have good aircon and small fridges.

For a bit more than the $15, also look at Nana hotel. Can be had for ~20/night, including breakfast. NC2 isn't worth the $25/night , IMHO.

Flamingo 's renovation looks more more like a complete transformation, the parking lot is gone entirely and the new building looks more like condos. For those who knew her Ayee the former daytime receptionist ... is as cute as ever.
