Angry Bird Bar

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

I buy coffee at the shop near the bus station, Phnom Penh Sorya line, in bulk 100g's, have them grind it.

I try the Vietnamase and Laos bins. I don't like the weasel as drinking shit laced beans doesn't appeal, but to each his very own.

Using a kettle and a French press, I'm quite happy to make my own in my suite, overlooking the traffic and watching the housewives do their laundry wrapped in a towel/cloth which occasionally provides me with a flash in the pants. When I make eye contact with them, I offer them a toast and room number. They never come over but it's a nice way to drink your coffee in the morning, quite relaxing and entertaining. The real Cambodia.

Tonight I went to Angry Bird's Bar for a drink or 3 and found the bar to be closed. A sign stated that they were closed for a couple of days because the staff went to Sihanoukville. Is it Cambodia style to close a business for a few days to take the staff on a road trip?

It used to be a common practice apparently. I was hoping the staff could wait till April when the quiet season kicks in but they were very keen to go before Christmas, so what the hell. They work very hard and deserve a bit of a break.

We're having a lot of fun down here in Snooky, heading back tomorrow morning. Open as usual on Wednesday night with happy, refreshed staff. It's cost me quite a lot of money in lost business and holiday spending but worth it I think.
