Let me spell it out for you as you seem to be running a little behind the rest of the class. Lao law dictates that a Lao national must hold a 51% interest. Believe it or not some people have this weird thing called a family.Some people even are married to Lao people and have children, or a boyfriend or whatever.

So they may wish to purchase something such as land or a house so their wife or children may have it and they can use it. The point of owning it is for purposes of inheritance.People also may wish to purchase outright if they have the intention to sell it later, which is exactly why I bought instead of leasing as I am reselling it. 51% is in a Lao persons name however I have made the contract so my 49% although I am the minority share, I represent the controlling interest. So I am able to sell, lease, give it away or whatever else I want to do with it just as if it was 100% my own land.

The 51% on the title for a Lao national is merely a place holder assuming you word the contract right.

For single people with no Lao family members, no permanent interest and wishing to avoid the added cost of buying, a lease may be more appropriate. This is why I am offering land for SALE or LEASE.

Aside from that I will be interested to see what happens with ASEAN. If that will allow other national from ASEAN communities to purchase land with no need for a Lao national, you will see one of the biggest land booms in recent years over here.

My advice to you is that if you do not understand these things, please go get competent legal assistance to help you with any purchases you are considering. I am guessing you do understand that land in Cambodia works much the same way although is a bit riskier right?

Not sure at all about what happens with ASEAN. Sounds like you have wrote up sensible arrangements in regards to your holdings.
