UFI releases new report on the Trade Fair Industry in Asia

PARIS / HONG KONG - UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, released the 15th edition of the Trade Fair Industry in Asia annual report, covering 17 locales including Greater China and Southeast Asian markets, Australia, Cambodia, Japan, Korea, India, Myanmar and Pakistan. The report provides complete data on the development of trade fairs and supporting facilities in these regions up to 31 December 2018, with additional figures and commentary on likely trends for the following year.

One key finding is that net space sold at Asian trade fairs reached 23.4 million net m2, which represents an average growth rate of 4.8% across 17 Asian trade fair markets.

Research shows that 23.4 million m2 of space was sold by exhibition organisers to their clients in Asia in 2018 – up from 22.3 m2 in 2017. More than half of the total (59%) was sold in China – totalling 13.7 million m2 in net space, which is well over six times the space sold in Asia’s second-largest trade fair market, Japan (2.15 million m2).

Cambodia was the fastest-growing trade fair market in the region in 2018 as space sold jumped by over 40%. Once again, India was the fastest-growing large market as net space sold jumped by 10%, rising from 1.18 million m2 to 1.3 million m2.

Other Southeast Asian markets that outperformed the regional average included Malaysia (7.7%), Vietnam (6.4%) and Singapore (5.4%). Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia posted growth lower than the regional average in 2018.

Cambodia to host Southeast Asia textile and apparel expo

Cambodia will be the venue next month of one of the biggest and most important gatherings of stakeholders in the garment sector in Southeast Asia.
According to the official website of the event, the Textile and Apparel SEA Summit 2019 will be held in Phnom Penh on Oct 28 and 29. The venue for the event has yet to be disclosed.

The event comes after the Kingdom hosted the 8th Cambodia International Textile & Garment Industry Exhibition last month, which also drew foreign attendees and exhibitors.

The organisers are expecting 100 to 500 attendees, including government officials and representatives from companies in India, Myanmar, Vietnam, China, and other countries.

Ten to 50 exhibitors are also expected to display their products and services at the event.

This year’s Cambodia Travel Mart, to be held in the capital in October, will attract 6,000 participants from 60 countries, the Minister of Tourism said yesterday during a press conference.

The third edition of the expo will be held in Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel and will boast 200 booths, mainly from Asian and European companies, Minister Thong Khon said.

He said the event brings together local and international buyers, suppliers, trade professionals, and media partners to network and exchange information on the latest tourism developments in the country.

The minister added that it aims to promote Cambodia’s tourism potential to the world by improving commercial relations with international companies.

The expo also helps generate more tour packages that include Cambodia, which ensures the number of tourist arrivals keeps increasing, he said.

“CTM 2019 is the best platform for local and international exhibitors to promote their products and services, network, and find new business opportunities.”

Of all expected 200 booths, local tourism organisations will occupy 42 percent, hotels and resorts 32 percent, travel agencies 14 percent, and airlines 10 percent.

Around 66 percent of participants are expected to come from Asia, 23 percent from Europe, and the rest from North America, Australia, and South America.

3rd Cambodia Travel Mart Held Successfully

The 3rd Cambodia Travel Mart (CTM) 2019-the Kingdom’s tourism fair from Oct 11-13, 2019 was concluded successfully.

This 3-day event was conducted together with some different activities, including art performances, exhibitions, seminars, tourism and business networking. More than 100 exhibitors from Cambodia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, and other countries.

Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khon said at his opening remark that tourism is one of the main potential sector in the kingdom.

"Tourism in Cambodia is one of the best investment conditions and opportunities in the region,” he said.

H.E. Thong Khon also shared the Cambodia's perspective to improve this sector in different provinces, including Siem Reap, Northeastern provinces, and the costal provinces.

H.E. Thong Khon also announced some upcoming tourism events such as the Sea Festival in Kampot, Mangrove Day in Koh Kong, and Mekong River Dolphin Day in Kratie.

Cambodian construction industry expo attracts dozens of Chinese exhibitors

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Cambodia-International Construction Industry Expo 2019, the kingdom’s largest annual event of its kind, kicked off here on Thursday, attracting dozens of Chinese exhibitors.

Held at the Diamond Island Exhibition Center, the three-day expo brought together 207 companies from countries across the world, and dozens of the exhibitors came from China, said Pung Kheav Se, chairman of the Cambodia Constructors Association.

“The companies are displaying almost 1,000 types of their construction industry-related products at the event,” he said at the expo’s opening ceremony, adding that the event would facilitate constructors and customers in looking for quality products.

Cambodian Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction Chea Sophara said the expo was a venue for companies to showcase their products and to seek business partners.

He said the construction sector is one of the four pillars supporting the kingdom’s economy and that the sector attracted a total investment of 8.7 billion U.S. dollars in the first 11 months of 2019, up 67 percent over the same period last year.

He added that currently, 1,081 construction companies, including 485 foreign developers, are operating in the country.

Cambodia primes up for ATF 2021

Cambodia is gearing up for ATF 2021 with the creation of the country’s largest exhibition hall.

Hoy Phireak, deputy director general of tourism development and international cooperation at the Ministry of Tourism, said plans are well underway to host next year’s event, which will run from January 17 to 21.

As part of the organisation, a new exhibition hall is currently being constructed on Chroy Changvar peninsular, which sits at the confluence of the Tonle Sap and Mekong River.

Full details have yet to be unveiled, but the building will surpass the country’s existing venues in terms of capacity and facilities.

Chhay Sivlin, president of Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, said: “Besides hosting ATF, the venue will add to Cambodia’s business event offerings and help increase our regional presence as a strong contender.”
