Wow!
And the "high efficiency professional taxi service" with no mention of their opening prices.

Especially as you can go from PP to BKK for $50 and be somewhere interesting.

Who actually has been flying from PP there? Bassaka closed down 2017/8 and that was only flying that route that time. Even with cheap tickets, flights were empty. When you spend 2000 € for your 2-3 week SEA trip, $60 and couple hours is nothing.

It's all about competition. This is just another thing neighboring countries organize in a more efficient, and cheaper, way.

Competition in what?

Flights? Bassaka was not able to fill planes with $25 tickets and went bankrupt. Airlines are free to fly that route. Let's see AirAsia starts to fly between it.

Airport transfers? The new airport has Grab and independent taxi and van operators too. For example there is van for $12 from airport to your hotel leaving once hour (only when ever there is flights obviously). Competitors can freely go and compete. The "official" taxi and bus only has own lane at the airport terminal and thus it's the official taxi and they promote it in these press releases.

A 12$ van doing 50 km? Every hour? Wow!
Spoiler:
That's more than a van from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap doing over 300 km will cost you.
Personally I think the transport to and from the airport is a bit overpriced, and if you want to attract more people, you have to make it all as smooth as possible. Currently, doesn't seem to be the case when I read the reviews. About 25% gives one star only.

Can't wait for the complaints when the new 'Techo' airport opens....

I've never flown to Siem Reap. However I've been there many times by boat/road. It takes about 6 hours to drive there. I don't know how much a coach is, maybe $15? So the alternative is to get to Phnom Penh airport, however long that takes, maybe 1 hour. Then check in and wait for 2 hours. Flight is about 45 minutes but altogether with waiting for taxiing etc say an hour. Then another hour or more to travel 50 km. So the flight ticket is $200 and the airport trip each end will be maybe $15. What's the point? $215 for 5.5 hours or $15 for 6 hours?
Silence, exile, and cunning.

But everyone are free to compete. Even Grab has priced that trip to around $30. That seems to be the market price currently. Unless you want government to offer subsidies? I at least find dozen more important things where the government should pour money in to.

Maybe once they build the proposed light rail line between city and airport the prices go down.

The point is that there is no such alternative as there is no direct flights from Phnom Penh since Bassaka collapsed. And back then, expats were not willing to pay $25 for the flight tickets that took them from city center to city center. So it's bit pointless bitch about it.

I flew domestic flights in and out of SR at least 20x between 2013 and 2019. On several different airlines. Flights were usually cheap and well loaded. I don’t believe Bassakar went bankrupt, they still exist as a company and their two A320s are still on the apron at PNH. They simply stopped flying as there was too much capacity on that route.
The relevant point to this discussion is that the new SR airport location has dimished the case for the PP-SR route.
