Sihanoukville-Phnom Penh Expressway Construction to Begin this Year (2018)

Expressway construction to begin this year

Construction of Cambodia’s first-ever expressway, linking Phnom Penh to Preah Sihanouk province, is expected to start this year, with the government now developing a compensation plan for people affected by the project.

“We are working hard to begin construction of the road before the end of the year. This is our goal,” said Va Simsorya, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation. “We are working to calculate the compensation that will be given to people affected by the project.”

The highway will be built on a build-operate-transfer basis by the China Road and Bridge Corporation, which reached a deal with the Cambodian government in January.

It will come at a cost of nearly $2 billion, and it will stretch over 190 kilometres – shorter than the current road, which runs for 240 kilometres. It will have four lanes for the majority of its run and will take four years to complete.

“To reduce the amount of compensation to be distributed, we have changed the course of the highway at certain points to avoid major villages and crowded areas,” Mr Simsorya explained.

Another expressway project, linking the capital with Bavet City in Svay Rieng province, on the border with Vietnam, is now under consideration, with preliminary studies being conducted by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

It has been confirmed by the Minister of Transport that the Chinese company, CAMBODIAN PPSHV EXPRESSWAY CO., LTD, will be in charge of the construction of the new 190.63 km long highway between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville. It is expected to cost around US$2 billion, and the work is expected to commence before the end of 2018.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

190km, assuming 80km speed limit, realistically 100kph, so just under 2 hours, throw in traffic in PP city 1hr, traffic at chom chao 45mins, traffic at chinkville road 4 near port 30mins, total 4hrs 15mins plus minus, YaY!!! back to travelling times 5years ago, 3 steps backward, 1 step forward :beer3: :beer3: :beer3:

wonder if the expressway still passes thru pech nil, wonder what happen to the shops n property prices there if it dont

The shop house owner directly opposite better put serious concrete blocks in front of his property to counter Cambodian trucks brake failure.

the coming down the hill right turn cars makes the cars going up the hill unable to proceed, small road etc etc blah blah, but supposedly left turn cars will be able to let cars going up as well at the same time, knowing the khmers are all lane blind, we shall see :beer3:
