look into setting up business in Hong Kong or Estonia
I have registered for the e-residency but it takes about 2 months to organise and then the closest place to collect the e-residency pack is China. (They do list Singapore but they say they only deliver to there 3-4 times per year)

Estonia does seem like the best option however.

How does someone legally live in Cambodia while running an international online business (so you're not actually working in Cambodia)? Surely it's not just a case of registering and obtaining a work permit as self employed?
Wieird. if you LIVE in cambodia and you are running a business while living here then you ARE working here. Why do you think that you banging away at your keyboard in phnom Penh is not working? Doesn't matter where the business is you are working in Cambodia. And yes, it is a s simple as registering as a sole trader. if you dont wnat your customers to know where you are get a phone number with another country code. you can do that in most of Europe, or use a Skype number and a vpn so everyone thinks your emails are from Bulgaria or wherever you want them to think you are
Yes, I'm aware that banging away at a keyboard in Phnom Penh does mean I'm technically working here. What I meant was that I would not be doing any trade in Cambodia.

And it's got nothing to do with trying to hide where in the world I am from my customers. As anyone who's ever tried to set up an online business here will probably tell you, at some point you need the services of a payment gateway. This is where you start to run into problems. Once these payment gateway services are aware your company is registered in Cambodia, your options suddenly become extremely limited. Cambodia is blacklisted on the FATF list ( Financial Action Task Force) of "Non-Cooperative Countries or Territories" (NCCTs)".
