Yep, i have found the same ^^^
Old fashioned Western Union is no more expensive than bank transfer when you look at the hidden fees - and so easy.
The one time i really compared the exchange rates WU came in pretty good.
+AU$15 bucks straight fee, no hiddens. (US$11 approx)
just make sure you get the name and details of receiver exactly the same as on their ID.

I have not tried these new fangled Zoom/Wing things tho'.

I tried to set up RIA, but cant do that till I get back to the states. Transferwise wont transfer dollars to Cambo. Western Union is cheap, but there service sucks so bad that I will never use them again unless I have no other choice.

So I use ATM withdrawels which costs $30. Thats twice the cost western union, but the speed and lack of hassle is worth the money to me.

When I get back to the states, Ill set up RIA, but I may just wire 20 or 30 thousand once and be done with it for 6 months or so.

Wild A and readers of this fine forum, to set up Ria you can just a free VPN ( ai am assuming they wont do with a Cambodian IP address or similar) like the one that comes with Opera and set it for USA and grab a google voice number or skype number to authenticate texts if they require that. I like the google pay to US bank and same with Paypal and very little if any fees w paypal like .50 cents per $100 or some such fee and NO fees with google pay. Google pay comes with gmail again if its a US based account and use the VPN to achieve that, you get a lot more with gmail than you realize. ATM fees come back to you at end of the month with a good bank or brokerage that offers checking too - you can get one that will pay you back all the fees and they add up. I have not used RIA '- as for WU they are great at the Monivong and st 154 loc. only and clueless everywhere else, just like Stern said names as in passport exactly and have exact amt known to both parties and bring that passport cuz its all they will take - maybe NagaWorld one is good too - any attitude of ours will be suppressed by the daytime mgr at Monivong WU but she grows on you and gets it done. No Moneygram and no World Remit good tales to share at all. Wires into existing US banks are great too if you like the ATM routine and I always do like that route and use ABA's machines when I can. ABA also offers that ecash deal they have where you can receive money at their ABA ATMs with no card touch screen options and a 6 dig. code sent from an 'aba acct holder with no fees and its way cool.

Can't say I've used it, but WorldRemit does purportedly work with Wing for international transfers; same concept as TransferWise.

I wouldn't call Wing "new fangled". it has been here since 2008. Those were the days. ;)

Wing is the agent for WorldRemit. I tried sending through WorldRemit to Wing in Cambodia and although they first accepted the deal, they then cancelled it and returned my money back into my bank account . [ no reason given] Unlike OFX who are making all sorts of excuses for not returning my money.

timmydownawell wrote: Tue Apr 28, 2020 4:32 pm ABA recently stopped charging their $10 fee for inward SWIFT/TT transfers (as you can see in AndyKK's post above). But yeah the intermediary banks take a nice fee.
The chart shows they still charge for inward swift USD deposits, or am I missing something?

The other currencies are free but then they perform the FX conversion so they will make their money there on the spread.

Yeah I saw this pop up somewhere recently (FB? ABA App? Who knows) but here it is from their website:

World Remit does use Wing as one of the agents and the problem is never with Wing, Wing is great, you just need any cell phone to give the number to sender or agent and it works great- World Remit has done this non qualified close the sender acct thing a few times too many (as mentioned by directly above by two consecutive posters and i m over them. Ria seems to have a deal going with ABA but Im not into things that are marketed to folks to boost a banks portfolio or look but does not work and have observed this kind of stuff all too often. Wing has a deal with a Thai partner that has not quite made it operational for example; looking at the websites and news releases makes the thing look a party on Garth scene.
Ria may just be flagging Cambodian profiles or not permitting the KOW profiles to participate and it appears set up to be worldly but so did World NO mittance . ABA and Swift look great to the rcvr but the sender fees can t beat google and Paypal, if you do Paypal make sure you do not profile as goods and services vendor unless you are a vendor. Best to set up for simple usage as friends and family to avoid 21 day holds. Some folks swear by Paypal but its lame and getting old and crusty already but its good to have options. Moneygram is again beyond horrid and is slickly marketed and they are falling ong from 2nd in this vertical market and into the abyss. Facebook has a pay mechanism but its not offered here yet among others. VENMO is also a no go here and is mobile phone based only now it appears.
