That was a remark for the island of Koh Rong, but in all fairness we can extended those words for investors countywide, for today your competition are that of government favoured, who seem to have that of a bottomless pit of investment monies.
I feel that all the Chinese money is going to start drying up soon...

crob why would you think that? Firstly its whom has interest in the investment, secondly for why, may it be that of a power game.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Those are just made to give some possible idea (usually artist's) how the area will look like. But what is in master plan, probably most will come live. Most of the stuff you list there are coming into fruition as we are speaking. Some slower (Grand Phnom Penh & Bokor, though both getting some new speed in last 12 months thanks to Chinese & local money) and some are on their original realistic schedule (Koh Pich, which is not that far that all the land is developed the way it was in master plan; offices, parks, big international school, hospital, entertainment & sport facilities, condos, townhouses, hotels).

Koh Rong roads will be done. Lot of works already done earlier this year. And this Royal Groups announced master plan is not really that big even. I'm sure Koh Rong will have airport in 2030s.
That'exactly what I said: the drawings won't represent reality. Remember the drawings for the Koh Pich "Marina Bay"? These were not "artistic interpretations", they were on the fencing of the fricking building... Does it looks like the original plans? No. And that's my point. Of course they'll develop the islands, either now or later. No two ways around it. Boyoung town is something like 20 years in the making and looks like horrendous Soviet style towers from the 70s.

As a side note: I'm not one of those "the islands/Sihanoukville was better back in the day". I personally couldn't care less about the islands. I never really liked them as I don't like beaches/sand. I haven't been in around 5 years and don't have any real plans to go back anytime soon. My point is that the spiraling thing you see there might get done, but it'll look a bit shitty and of lower quality. It won't look like Singapore or Dubai, it'll be the poor man's version (which is fine, but that's my issue; the liberties these renderings take in "beautifying" it all). 200 million isn't exactly a lot of projects like this, but it's a good start to have a road I guess. My only desire is that they keep large parts of it (like 40-60%) a national park like Koh Chang.

....
A little more development wouldn't hurt, especially now that the backpacker vibe is going to start to die down... A nice paved road that loops the island, where you can spend a day riding a bike, decent sewage and power system would do great... I just don't want to see any casinos... There's enough of that shit on the mainland.
The problem is that backpackers, 50 cent beers and girly bars don't pay those roads, power and sewage systems. You need the chinese, at least few casinos and bigger resorts.

very true, I'm fine paying more for a nice hotel/resort, as I'm an adult who works full time, but if they overdevelop it the island it's going to lose its appeal...

I cannot get excited about this.

Unless you are Chinese or have interests in Chinese investments, why would you look forward to more Chinese development of this island after they made such a mess in Sihanoukville? Piss off most of the locals in the process and brought all the things of gambling ... gangster, money lender shark, kidnappings, drug, guns, shootings, suicides, prostitution etc

And with the majority of business run by and for the Chinese, the majority of locals get low paying jobs if they're lucky or become dispossessed and have to move elsewhere. The rest of foreigner tourist don't want to go there anymore because it become an outpost of China. If they want to see China and Chinese people, they can go to China. Same complaint at Angkor Wat with overrun.

It is clear who the target investors are for these resort, casinos and developments on the island and the future tourists. This island and others nearby I scare will become extensions of more bad development.

it is lower than the ground floor. It can be "-1 floor".

In 200,000 plus population city, all crime of that kind was limited to the ones we read on the newspapers. The online gambling mafia left. Even when they were around, it was safer than before, especially for Western people. What we read on newspapers casuses a focusing effect and may cause us overinfer or misinfer frequencies of focused things.

Sihanoukville passed through a stage of development which was a headache but now it is at a different stage and from last month on the roads are mostly finished, it is a fun to drive scooter or car and all beaches are free of those shacks and restaurants which send toilet waters to the sea and we ate food near that sea.

Please don't have prejudice against development stages. Every 6 months you will hear a complaint solved.

More and more "parties" are requiring fluency in Chinese, especially in Asia. Now seems like a good time to starting improving those language skills.

There's always a reason to improve your language skills. Chinese isn't on my radar though.
