Koh Rong needs some development. Perhaps not an airport on such a small island, but some modern sewage and electricity wouldn't go amiss. Neither would a slightly more sensible form of travel than boats or scooters on the beach.
It doesn't need highways but a few 10m wide roads might be useful.
I'm neither a lover or a hater of basti, and have been brutal about his adverts in the past. But this isn't an ad. He's sharing some plans that have been announced and probably won't come to fruition.
Let's wait and see.
But the anger and hatred seem overkill. If people are foolhardy and brazen enough to invest in Koh Rong they deserve everything they receive, be that huge profits or losing everything. It's not for me, but few got rich without risk. We shouldn't knock people for trying.

Many in Cambodia. Koh Pich for one (I still remember the Canadia Bank calenders from 12 years ago with very "imaginative" renderings at my work place), Bokor is another that comes to mind. Countless Phnom Penh projects as well (Grand Phnom Penh, multiple skyscrapers). I know you have a hard-on for the islands given you work as a real estate agent, but it's easy to see through the facade. I don't mind change personally, and I know all the islands will change one way or another, but they most definitely won't end up looking like those renderings. Let's come back in 5 years and look at them again...

Those "imaginative" renderings are just artist's illustrations that have really nothing to do with reality. Those are just made to give some possible idea (usually artist's) how the area will look like. But what is in master plan, probably most will come live. Most of the stuff you list there are coming into fruition as we are speaking. Some slower (Grand Phnom Penh & Bokor, though both getting some new speed in last 12 months thanks to Chinese & local money) and some are on their original realistic schedule (Koh Pich, which is not that far that all the land is developed the way it was in master plan; offices, parks, big international school, hospital, entertainment & sport facilities, condos, townhouses, hotels).

Koh Rong roads will be done. Lot of works already done earlier this year. And this Royal Groups announced master plan is not really that big even. I'm sure Koh Rong will have airport in 2030s.

Whatever the basis of his committment to the islands, it is obviously stronger than most of ours. G'donya BB, hang in!

Sure, i am basically a low-impact development man myself, so i dont like ^^^ this kind of thing. But BB has no influence on all these grand plans.
And i really value the regular contact and news of his aspect of island affairs. Most of us would not have a clue about this development eg, nor the state of other tourist resorts if it was not for his posts.
He generally sticks to the commercial section, does not hard sell, replies to questions - and keeps a cool head when he cops abuse. What is the problem?

I will add to that by saying it would be a very good thing if the unlikely ever did happen - ie, if 1, or 10, CEO members or regular readers ever did buy a few of his nicer resorts.

The battle for tourist development style on the coast is a bit like the geopolitical war around here - BOTH sides have to show up if you want to have a contest.
At present that is not happening.

I also feel that basta binci is misusing this forum as a free advertising site for his personal business interests.

Maybe you are right or wrong, but you will have to admit that the info he gives and the pic's that are posted are much better than any other realestate agents. I dont mind his advertising posts cause you have to be able to see the lemons, to be able to compare them to the mandarins and grapefruit.

A little more development wouldn't hurt, especially now that the backpacker vibe is going to start to die down... A nice paved road that loops the island, where you can spend a day riding a bike, decent sewage and power system would do great... I just don't want to see any casinos... There's enough of that shit on the mainland.

Like I replied to basta.binici on is other thread, whom ever invests here will need deep pockets. That was a remark for the island of Koh Rong, but in all fairness we can extended those words for investors countywide, for today your competition are that of government favoured, who seem to have that of a bottomless pit of investment monies.

I always thought that was the charm of the place.

Agreed it needs some sewerage systems in place but overdeveloping at turning it into every other island in SEA doesn't seem ideal to me.

Add to that killing off all the small independent places that help spread the wealth a little better.

I wonder who the target market is
