Investment Banking

Post by Artful Dodger »

While I probably can take the painstaking and time consuming endeavor of roaming about inquiring of different banking options to obtain the information, perhaps some of you already know the answer.

Which banks in Cambodia pay the best interest rates on term deposits?

My investments in Vietnam banks were greatly beneficial when I first began quite some years ago with some paying interest rates of greater than 15%,..... those days are gone and interest rates have dropped now to below 9%. I am now looking for maybe better value in Cambodia investment banking.

which currency are you referring to? USD or KHR? also u cant compare vietnam to cambodia, 15% 8 years ago was VND TD, TD of banks are set according to what currencies they are lacking, i.e. if the banks operating in cambodia are lacking KHR then they would set KHR TD at higher interest rates to attract KHR deposits, example right now, about 4% to 5% for a 1 year TD, whereas USD TD is 3% to 4% for 1 year, microfinance institutes are higher about 7% to 9% for KHR 1 year TD.

hope it answer your question, for more accurate rates, take a walk around the banks, TD rates are plastered all over the place

VND devaluating is the side effect, the main reason is viet saw china success in mixing socialism with capitalism so in the 2000s (maybe earlier, need more research) started their own capitalism drive, which in turn needs lots foreign capital and at the same time softening their currency for making it look attractive for foreign investment

The time is coming when the Cambodian Riel will devalue, and people with deposits in Riel will lose money. I can't tell you when.

Only use US dollars.

If you have large a amount of money, keep it in a western country.

People have been saying that since 2000.

They've also been saying that the property bubble will burst for between 5-10 years.

Neither has happened.

The mistake western economists frequently make is they base predictions on western rules and logic, neither of which apply here.

Western rules/logic don't apply, listen to what Asians are saying.
