Pretty sure ABA is now majority owned by The National Bank of Canada (or something like that).

I've banked with Acleda, Canadia and ABA... As I've said in many previous posts, ABA shits all over the other 2 and that's why I've stayed with them.

Also, I would trust Canadia more in an economic crisis, ABA don't have such deep roots in Cambodia. The bigger MDIs are worth considering when they offer better rates on fixed deposits but they would be riskier than Canadia.
If it's about safety, I'd use ACLEDA. At least it's partly owned by foreign Western banks. And it has by far the largest network in the Kingdom.
Acleda and ABA are the only Cambodian banks with credit ratings from Standard and Poor's. Acleda has B (stable outlook), ABA got a B (negative outlook). ABA also got a B+ from Dagong. Canadia is not rated. It is regarded as solid, however. Of course B is not very high by international standards.

Most of the MDIs have substantial foreign ownership and some foreign management, look at Hatha and Sathapana.

Yes, 90% owned by the national bank of Canada.

I would choose ABA out of all the options within Cambodia. Currently bank with ANZ royal but wouldn't recommend and will move soon

ANZ were trying to sell me a credit card a couple of days ago. Was looking promising until I enquired about the cost, $100 annual fee & balance limited to what I have in my account. Still trying to work out the point of it

I've been with ABA for many years. Lots of ATMs, no problems booking hotels, flights, Aliexpress, etc with ABA Visa debit card.

National Bank of Canada has an A-1 rating from Standard and Poor's, which is several grades up from ABA's B rating. Which goes to show that NBC is able to walk away if its subsidiary got into trouble.

From my experience transfering from Australia, Canada bank has $10 intermediary bank fee but ABA has $25

Intermediary bank fee depends on the intermediary bank which your transfer is routed through, nothing to do with the receiving bank fees.

Nobody could tell me who the intermediary bank was and how I could choose which one so I just continued using Canadia. I used world first to transfer the money from Australia to Cambodia

There are ABA branches in almost all provincial capitals, also many smaller towns and they are branching out, they also have the largest network of ATMs in the country I believe.
