W8-BEN form

Post by CamboPete »

Considering joining a broker in the US, which would require to fill in a W8-BEN form.
Does anyone have knowledge how to fill it in and what the percentage from the treaty between Cambodia and US regarding the withholding amount is?
Or can anyone recommend a person who might know it and is on the cheaper end for consultation and tax services? Thanks!

Wouldn’t the broker be able to find the rate for you?
The entire rest of the form is just name and address.

I thought so, too. They should have an interest that people complete it.
Albeit, when chatting with them they were rather brief with that info.
I should maybe try again, perhaps it was just the operator.
Anyone knows it anyway?

I don't believe there is a tax treaty between Cambodia and USA. So you'd be subject to 30% withholding on all earnings.

Its been many years since I "knew", but I believe you actually wouldn't be filling one out other than to provide basic information to the brokerage firm.

Good luck.

Anyone buying shares in USA registered companies has to sign the form. It doesn't matter where the broker is located.

You don't need to know this in order to complete the form but the USA is not on the short list of countries with which Cambodia has a double tax treaty,

The form is not difficult to complete. There are many websites that assist.

Thanks for the info. Indeed, if I don't need to fill in the special rate and condition section with relating article and paragraph, then filing the W8-Ben is not complicated.
Thanks for all answers, folks!
